Service Summary

The Mason Enterprise Services Architecture (MESA) is the university’s information technology infrastructure that provides file services and storage, desktop management, and enhanced desktop security. Networked file storage space is allocated to each Mason department to store and share files. Mason departments are given the ability to create MESA department shares that can be accessed by multiple people at Mason and are backed up daily. There are several levels of access for the MESA share.

Group Admin
  • Can view all groups and group memberships
  • Can add and remove users from AD groups (i.e., Staff, WS-ADMIN, etc.)
  • Can assign Technical Point of Contact (TPOC)
Technical Point of Contact (TPOC)
  • Can Add new shares
  • Can Remove shares
  • Can modify share quotas
  • Can view share information
  • Must certify MESA shares audit once per year
Share Administrator
  • Can see share usage, quota & percentage full
  • Can change share description
  • Can add and remove users from share
  • Must audit MESA shares once per year
MESA User
  • Can see share usage, quota & percentage full
  • Can see share description

Access is limited to George Mason University departments and cannot be accessed from off-campus locations without a Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection.

Getting This Service

To request a new MESA share, contact your department's Technical Point of Contact (TPOC). If you do not know who the contact is for your department, the ITS Support Center can assist you.

Access to a MESA share is granted by the "share" administrator. MESA shares are accessible via M:\shared.

All users of the George Mason University network must adhere to University Policy Number 1301: Responsible Use of Computing.
